Since its founding in 1980, MALT has been at the forefront of local farmland preservation efforts and a model for organizations engaged in similar efforts nationwide. In 2000, the Marin Economic Commission honored MALT with an Award of Excellence for its contribution to agriculture, and the Bay Area Open Space Council gave us a Conservation Easement Stewardship Award for creating one of the nation's leading stewardship programs. MALT's Executive Director Bob Berner was recognized in 2004 by the Marin County Board of Supervisors for his 20 years of service guiding MALT as it became a national model for farmland preservation.
