Accounting Manager

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Accounting Manager is a part-time (60% FTE) non-exempt position responsible for managing the financial resources of the organization on a daily basis including accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and the MALT system of internal controls, oversight of organization-wide budgets and safeguarding assets through adherence to policies and procedures.

Specific duties include:

  • Responsible for month-end and year-end close of accounting system including
  • Preparing and posting journal entries
  • Reconciling balance sheet accounts on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Reconcile quarterly payroll tax returns with general ledger
  • Monitoring and reporting on budget vs actual performance
  • Preparation of annual 1099 and 1096 reporting
  • Responsible for day-to-day functioning of the finance department, including
  • Processing accounts payable
  • Processing deposits, including stock gifts
  • Processing payroll
  • Monitoring investments and advising Director of Operations on necessary transactions
  • Responsible for onboarding of staff, including
  • Administering benefits, including enrollment in medical insurance and retirement plans
  • Participate in annual audit and tax filing preparation with outside CPA firm, including:
  • Planning and preparing schedules
  • Serving as liaison during fieldwork
  • Reviewing drafts
  • Attending board audit committee meetings
  • Interface with Finance and Investment committee, including
  • Preparing agendas and packets for quarterly meetings
  • Attending meetings
  • Taking minutes
  • Additional responsibilities
  • Ensuring compliance with multistate registration requirements
  • Responding to ad hoc reporting requests
  • Assisting with office services as requested; serve as backup to essential functions of office manager
  • Assisting with MALT special events as requested

Qualifications

  • BS in Accounting or related field preferred, but not required
  • Five + years experience with non-profit and fund accounting
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Working knowledge of Abila MIP a plus but not required
  • Self directed and ability to work independently
  • Close attention to detail and accuracy, excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to listen effectively, collaborate and problem solve
